Interior Atrium, Exterior Amenity Spaces, and 4th Avenue Entrance Upgrades Part of an Extensive Renovation; Slated for Completion in Spring 2018
Seattle, WA, August 28, 2017 – Urban Renaissance Group (www.urbanrengroup.com) (URG) today announced an extensive renovation for downtown Seattle’s 76-story Columbia Center office tower in both the retail and public spaces.
Construction at the building, located at 701 5th Avenue, is underway and includes a substantial renovation of the three-story retail atrium, several exterior amenity enhancements, and a completely reconstructed entrance at 4th Avenue.
“Expanding and modernizing the retail experience at Columbia Center will better serve our current office tenants and their guests,” said URG Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Callahan. “In addition, the new renovations will offer better interior pedestrian connections, allowing for expanded interactions and collaboration in both indoor and outdoor spaces.”
Built in 1985, Columbia Center is the tallest skyscraper in downtown Seattle and one of the tallest on the west coast. Specific renovations for the Class-A office tower include three distinct, but interrelated elements:
- Columbia Center Atrium. Renovations in Columbia Center’s Atrium include the addition of a grand feature staircase—anchoring the Atrium experience and connecting the first and second floors. Additional improvements include the replacement of the brick flooring with a modern concrete finish, acoustical baffles and wood slat ceilings along with new lighting, new furnishings throughout, and modernization of the 3rd level lounge areas.
- 4th Avenue Entrance. Renovation of the entrance into the Atrium on 4th Avenue is also underway, with plans including removal of the dark canopy, extension of the entrance towards the street with a three-story glass curtain wall to bring in more light, and the addition of a living green wall.
- Exterior Amenities. Renovated exterior amenity spaces include a new glass canopy-covered deck area, news furnishings, a fire pit, and stadium seating on the fourth floor, offering broad, expansive views of the Puget Sound and Olympic Peninsula along with protection from the elements to allow for year-round enjoyment.
Columbia Center has also added several new exciting retailers in the last few years to the existing 58,000 sq. ft. multi-level retail space within the Atrium. These include Kigo Kitchen, Elemental Pizza, Juicy Café, Monorail Espresso, Piroshky Piroshky and Sushi Kudasai. New restaurants Poke Lovers and a new made-to-order burger restaurant will also open this fall.
Renovations are underway and slated to be completed in phases through Spring 2018. Callison RTKL is the project architect and Lease Crutcher Lewis is the general contractor.
