Crews begin work on the latest downtown hotel project amid heightened demand

SEATTLE – (April 7, 2016) – Stonebridge Companies, a hotel owner, operator and developer headquartered near Denver, Colorado, selected Mortenson Construction to build a Residence Inn by Marriott at 924 Howell Street earlier this year. Mortenson Construction recently broke ground on the 302-room, 15-story hotel. The project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2017.

The Residence Inn by Marriott will be situated in an area that is quickly evolving into a hub for high-profile office, residential, retail and hotel projects. Located adjacent to the planned Washington State Convention Center expansion, the hotel will include a 7,000 square-foot conference center as well as a fitness center and three levels of below-grade parking. Each room will include a kitchenette and work area for extended-stay travelers. Plans also call for a lobby bar. Approximately 1,300 square feet of retail space will be incorporated on the first level facing Howell Street.

“Anyone who’s tried to book a hotel room in or near Seattle’s central business district on a weekday, or during tourist season, knows that rooms are in short supply,” said Mortenson Construction Vice President John Nowoj. “We’re thrilled to partner with Stonebridge Companies to deliver a comfortable, convenient hospitality experience in one of the city’s fastest-growing neighborhoods.”

The project team includes architecture firm Johnson Braund—which designed the Hill7 Hilton Garden Inn—and Denver-based interior design company Design Force. The mechanical, electrical and plumbing design-build team is composed of Valley Electric (electrical, fire alarm and low-voltage systems) and Auburn Mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls).

“As Stonebridge Companies continues to expand, we are pleased to have the opportunity to bring our unique brand of Distinguished Hospitality to the Residence Inn by Marriott,” said Navin C. Dimond, Founder, President and CEO of Stonebridge Companies.

Mortenson is among the most active builders in the booming Denny Triangle neighborhood. Along with Touchstone’s Hill7 and the adjoining 222-room Hilton Garden Inn completed last year, Mortenson is currently building AMLI Residential and Mortenson Development’s 41-story AMLI Arc apartment tower, and the 11-story Tilt49 office project developed by Touchstone and Principal Real Estate Investors.
This week’s groundbreaking also marks Mortenson’s fourth active or recently-completed Northwest hotel development, including the Oregon Convention Center Hotel.
