Skanska, Fana Group Plan Two-Tower Mixed-Use Project in Bellevue’s Washington Square

By The Registry Staff

Bellevue’s skyline is set for another transformation as Fana Group of Cos. unveils its plans for a prime corner in downtown Bellevue. The long-awaited Washington Square development is poised to welcome a striking addition in the form of a 27-story, 400-unit mixed-use multifamily project that promises to redefine urban living in the heart of the city. According to a report from the Puget Sound Business Journal, the updated master development plan now outlines two towers – the aforementioned multifamily tower as well as a sleek nine-story office tower, reflecting a blend of residential and commercial uses.

Fana Group is collaborating with Skanska USA Commercial Development on the project.

Located on Northeast Eighth Street at 106th Avenue Northeast, the office tower, slated to rise on the north part of the 1.5-acre site, will offer nearly 272,300 square feet of space, according to the report. Construction of the office tower is projected to commence in May 2026, followed by the start of work on the multifamily tower the following month. Skanska will serve as the general contractor for the office tower, although the company’s involvement in the multifamily project remains uncertain.

Skanska is a construction and development company that serves a broad range of clients including those in transportation, power, industrial, water/wastewater, healthcare, education, sports, data centers, government, aviation and commercial, according to the firm’s website. The company has a number of projects throughout the Puget Sound region.

Another of the firm’s projects in Bellevue, called The Eight, is a 540,000 square foot office tower featuring 10,000 square feet of retail including a 1,000 square foot standalone pavilion. The Eight represents Skanska’s sixth development project in the Puget Sound region and its second project in Bellevue since it began development operations in 2011. Skanska purchased the land for The Eight in July 2018. The Pokemon Company International, a subsidiary of The Pokemon Company based in Japan, recently signed a deal to lease 526,595 square feet of the building, of which 152,309 square feet is parking.

The Washington Square development represents the culmination of years of planning and investment in the superblock bounded by Northeast Eighth Street, 106th Avenue Northeast, Northeast 10th Street and 108th Avenue Northeast. Spearheaded by developer Eugene Horbach starting in the 1980s, the project has transformed the area into a thriving urban hub, featuring prominent landmarks such as condo towers, hotels and office buildings.
