Seattle 2030 District Announces Leadership Transition

The Seattle 2030 District expresses its gratitude to Executive Director Susan Wickwire for over three years of energetic leadership and accomplishment, and welcomes Matthew Combe, current Program and Operations Director, as its new leader. Susan has decided to move on from the organization to pursue a new career in secondary education. Her last day will be Dec. 31, 2018. The staff and Board wish her all the best in her new endeavor.

“We greatly appreciate all that Susan has done during her tenure with the 2030 District,” said Board Chair Sabrina Villanueva of Clise Properties. “She oversaw a big policy win with the City’s new 2030 Challenge Pilot incentive program and diversified our funding with large gains in sponsorship and the introduction of membership fees. We are fortunate that Matthew will be taking over and bringing his years of experience, expertise and connections to the Executive Director position.”

Under Susan’s leadership, the District: reached its 2015 milestones for energy use and transportation emissions; launched a new Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) program that has facilitated a number of new projects, completed a neighborhood-scale GSI assessment, issued several reports and mapped member GSI projects for the first time; promoted opportunities for efficiently sharing otherwise wasted energy; and started new initiatives to engage tenant businesses and District members as organizational champions.

Looking ahead, Matthew will be promoting the 2030 Challenge Pilot program to ensure it is successful as well as shaping a new retrofit credit market to pay for green building upgrades. He will also oversee a competition to manage stormwater through GSI projects, move Seattle 2030 and the broader market toward zero net carbon building operations, and advance the further electrification of private vehicles and public transit.
