PCL Construction Hosts University Professors in Industry-Related Lectures Regarding Technology and LEAN Construction Practices

Seattle, WA (July 24, 2017) – PCL Construction Services, Inc. hosted a dozen university construction professors for a day of lectures and discussions in order to offer a hands-on learning opportunity that will help educators enhance their curriculums. The day’s topics included jobsite technology, construction modeling, LEAN construction practices, and high-rise structural systems. A jobsite tour was also given of the Arrivé high-rise in Belltown.

“We’re so pleased to have a chance to really contribute something to the teachers and to the universities that will help them better prepare our industry’s future workforce,” said Felicia Bawdon, PCL’s human resources manager. “By keeping our educators ‘in the know’ about industry trends and jobsite technologies, it will feed the industry pipeline with graduates who are better prepared for jobs in construction.”

Attendees included professors from the University of Washington, Washington State University, Central Washington University, Colorado State University, and California State University, Chico.

PCL held the event at the Arrivé jobsite, a 41-story high-rise, mixed-use tower. The project team toured the professors through the subterranean parking structure and first six levels of elevated deck, which comprise the core and shell of the amenity- and hotel-level spaces of the building.

“At PCL our greatest resource and differentiator is our people, and partnering with local universities ensures high-caliber recruits for the future,” said Aaron Wiehe, vice president and district manager. “Collaborative events like this support the growth of PCL and benefit the entire construction industry.”
