PCL Construction Donates to Washington State University’s Construction Management Program for a New Building Information Modeling Initiative

Seattle, Washington (November 2, 2017) – With construction booming and the increasing use of building information modeling (BIM) throughout the architecture, engineering, and construction industry, the Washington State University’s (WSU) School of Design and Construction is looking to better familiarize students with BIM technology. And PCL Construction Services, Inc. is committed to furthering WSU’s endeavors to do just that.

PCL Construction recently attended the WSU Construction Management program alumni mixer where they presented WSU with a $75,000 donation to the school’s BIM initiative. The check was presented by Darin Chestnut, Director of Business Development for PCL Construction and a WSU graduate.

“Preparing our future builders with the knowledge and hands-on experience of working with BIM technology will allow WSU graduates to hit the ground running at their future jobs,” said Chestnut. “I’m so proud to see my alma matter striving to stay on the forefront of the technology that our industry is utilizing. This will serve to strengthen the construction industry as a whole.”

WSU’s BIM initiative is a three-phased plan that will begin with providing equipment, software, and updating classroom spaces that allow students to work with and utilize programs like Revit, Navis Works, P6, and AutoCAD.

According to Jason Peschel, Program Coordinator, Construction Management, WSU’s goal is to provide fully equipped classrooms where students can experience an immersive virtual reality experience relevant to the design and construction industry. These BIM classrooms will be utilized by several hundred students each year.
