Following Basis Independent Bellevue’s recent signing of a nearly 144,000 square foot lease in Bothell, new plans for the space have been revealed. Details for renovation of the private school’s new campus have been submitted to the City, according to a report from the Puget Sound Business Journal.
Basis Independent Bellevue’s new location is located at 21540 30th Drive SE. The space is part of Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc.’s sprawling one million square foot Center for Advanced Technologies campus. This space, however, would be converted into a new school building intended to accommodate nearly 2,000 students upon completion of the project.
The project would be done over the course of two phases, according to the report, with the first phase set to accommodate 905 students with an additional 970 students in the second phase. The estimated market value of the Bothell construction project stands at $30 million.
The first phase of development will encompass 30 general classrooms, along with 17 specialty classrooms, ranging from chemistry, art and music rooms, in addition to a gym and multipurpose/dining areas. An additional 11 general classrooms are slated for the second phase of construction.
Basis Independent Bellevue took the 144,000 square foot space – which encompasses a full building – during the third quarter, according to The Registry’s previous reporting. The Class A office building sits on 6.77 acres and was originally constructed in 2000.
Currently, Basis Independent Bellevue has a student body of over 200, ranging from second to ninth grades in Bellevue. The new Bothell campus is scheduled to open its doors in the fall of 2025, while the Bellevue location at 15749 NE Fourth St. will continue to operate concurrently, notes the report. The school is part of BASIS Curriculum Schools, which was founded in 1998 in Tucson, Ariz. Currently, the organization operates 37 campuses and serves 24,000 students throughout the United States.
