“Imagine a Better World”: PCS Structural Solutions Engineer Creates Award-Winning Video for SEFW

“What’s cool about structural engineering?” PCS Structural Solutions principal Luke Heath rolls up his sleeve to answer that question in his award-winning video for the Structural Engineers Foundation of Washington (SEFW), “Imagine a Better World.”

SEFW provides public education about engineering, scholarships, and mentorship to young STEM students. Last fall, SEFW challenged its members to help get these students excited about structural engineering with a video through the first ever SEFW FilmWorks competition. Luke decided to meet this challenge by illustrating the idea that first inspired him to become an engineer: the ability to change the world through engineering.

In his editorial for SEFW’s newsletter, Luke writes, “This video is intended to tease the imagination and to inspire future generations of students to explore how structural engineers can change the world. We can all make a difference, and our legacy is also passing our passion on to the next generation.”

Although the SEFW FilmWorks first place award included a monetary prize, Luke chose to stay true to his vision and donate the money back to SEFW—with the stipulation that it be put towards a need-based scholarship for future engineering students.

PCS Structural Solutions is proud to have passionate engineers like Luke who are engaged in the community and making a positive impact on the next generation of A/E/C professionals.
