Eastside Preparatory School in Kirkland is getting a new performing arts theatre with a price tag of $15,812,500 in a deal that closed on February 1st. King County records show ELG LLC, which is associated with some members of the school’s board, sold the property to Eastside Preparatory School LLC, an entity affiliated with other school board members.
The Eastside Preparatory School campus is located in the Linbrook Office Park at 10613 N.E. 38th Place in Kirkland. Originally developed in 1982, the 106,000 square foot office park is made up of twelve buildings. In 2005, Hines acquired the park for $20.56 million and then sold off buildings to the Eastside Prep LLC over time.
Eastside Prep is planning a new performing arts center, Tali Hall, that will include two four-story buildings that are designed by Public47 Architects and will replace two existing two-story structures.
The new 34,000-square foot, 60’ tall building will include a theatre, music room, classrooms, administrative offices and below-grade parking. According to Public47 Architects’ Web site, the facility will provide a mix of programs including 20,000 square feet of educational spaces such as science labs, digital fabrication, general classrooms, a multipurpose space and office and support spaces. Additionally, the building will feature a 10,000 square foot gym and fitness center. Public records show the design of the building will also feature a sky-lit atrium space located between the theatre and the classroom and administrative area.
Since the school’s location was originally developed as an office park rather than a more traditional school-like campus setting, the architects believe the new building will enhance the campus pedestrian connections, according to the project’s proposal.
Public47 and contractor Schuachart also completed a three-story gym and science building on the campus, which was approved by the Kirkland Design Review Board in September of 2014.
