Cybersecurity Firm Tanium is Looking to Grow From its Kirkland Headquarters

Tanium, a cybersecurity company currently based in Kirkland, has announced plans to relocate its headquarters. This decision, revealed over three years after Tanium’s initial move from Emeryville, Calif., to Kirkland in late 2020, underscores the company’s need to accommodate its expanding team. The search is on for a larger space in Bellevue, reflecting Tanium’s growth and its ongoing commitment to harnessing the region’s talent pool.

Founded in 2007 by Orion Hindawi and his father, David Hindawi, Tanium specializes in protecting clients’ end devices, such as laptops and smartphones, from cyber threats. The company boasts a client list that includes Barclays, Honeywell, and AutoNation. Despite not disclosing specifics about the new location or its size, Tanium’s move is aimed at supporting its growing operations and workforce, according to a report in the Puget Sound Business Journal.

As of 2022, Tanium operated out of approximately 6,800 square feet at Carillon Point in Kirkland, with more than 1,800 employees worldwide, including 81 in Washington. The necessity for a larger space is partly driven by the company’s evolving office policy, which seeks to balance the benefits of in-person work with the flexibility of remote roles.

Orion Hindawi, who co-founded the company and served as its CEO before transitioning to executive chairman in February 2023, highlighted the exceptional talent pool in the region as a key reason for the company’s decision to expand locally. The leadership change, with Dan Streetman, a former Tibco Software CEO with experience at Salesforce and BMC Software, taking over as CEO, is part of Tanium’s strategic shift to focus on product development and customer engagement.

Tanium’s valuation stood at over $9 billion as of 2020, reflecting its significant impact on the cybersecurity industry. The company maintains offices in several locations, including its original site in Emeryville, as well as in North Carolina, Texas, and Maryland.

This headquarters move is indicative of Tanium’s broader growth strategy, aimed at strengthening its market position, enhancing its product offerings, and fostering a dynamic work environment that supports both in-office and remote employees, according to the company. With this relocation, Tanium is looking to continue its trajectory of growth and innovation within the cybersecurity sector.
