Cumming Announces Merger With Portland-Based Inici Group And Relocation Of Its Corporate Headquarters To Seattle

PORTLAND, Ore. – Making the announcement official earlier this week, Cumming, an international project management and cost consultancy, announced that Portland-based Inici Group has merged with its growing Pacific Northwest team. The joining of Inici Group with Cumming will increase its resources and capabilities throughout the region. Expanding its physical and executive leadership presence in the growing market, Cumming’s latest merger also comes as the international firm moves its corporate headquarters to Seattle to better support the consultancy’s significant growth throughout the Pacific region.

Founded in 1999, Inici Group under the leadership of Karl Schulz, offers a full range of construction services that guide development projects from the beginning conceptual stages through construction and occupancy.

“The natural alignment of our services, sectors, and culture were compelling benefits for both companies from the very start,” said Derek Hutchison, president at Cumming. “Welcoming Inici Group’s team and expert leadership into the Cumming family is not only in line with our national strategic growth plan, but this merger also represents our second investment in the Pacific Northwest region this year, doubling down on our belief in the region’s long-term potential.”

With more than $1.1 billion in completed projects across the West Coast, Inici Group drives assignments successfully through the entire development process, focusing on a proactive and transparent approach for even its most complex projects across various sectors.

Founder Ian Burns of PlanB, which joined Cumming’s Pacific Northwest team in 2020 noted, “After working successfully together on a few projects over the years, we knew combining forces with Inici Group would better serve our clients in the long-term and provide additional expert resources to help drive our future growth.”

Inici Group has longstanding assignments with leading brands and organizations, including Nike, the Port of Portland, Portland General Electric, Clackamas Community College, Portland Community College, and Legacy Health. The project management firm will continue to operate under the day-to-day leadership of its current executive team during its structured merger with Cumming’s other Pacific Northwest-based teams.

“After working on projects together in the past, we already knew that when it came time to start looking for an ideal strategic partner Cumming would be able to help facilitate our next chapter of growth based on the firm’s dedication to the region, its unwavering client-first approach, and our cultural alignment,” stated Schulz.

Cumming’s diverse portfolio includes an array of assignments in the high-tech, industrial, office, education, healthcare, and multi-family residential sectors totaling more than $300 billion in project value.  Growing to more than 1,000 professionals across 30 U.S. offices, with nearly 140 team members in the Pacific Northwest region alone, as well as international offices in Beijing, London, Edinburgh, Manchester, and Stoke-on-Trent, U.K., Cumming’s new corporate headquarters in Seattle will become home to the company’s CEO and COO as they focus on driving long-term growth.

Schulz continued, “Aligning ourselves with such a growth-focused firm like Cumming allows Inici Group the ability to provide our clients with additional specialized expertise, services, and resources, while at the same time leveraging Cumming’s new corporate headquarters location to provide exciting career opportunities for our team members.”
