GLY’s Charlie Hafenbrack Retires December 2018

Please join GLY in congratulating our Business Development Director, Charlie Hafenbrack, on his illustrious 29-year-career and well-deserved retirement at the end of December 2018. A connector of people and ideas, Charlie leaves an indelible mark on GLY culture, and we wish him well as he embarks on new adventures at home and abroad.

Voted Most Likely to Succeed in high school, Charlie is perhaps best described as Most Likely to Be Seen—as a friendly and engaged presence at industry events, as a generous mentor and teacher who shared his considerable industry knowledge and network, and a selfless friend who lent a hand before help was asked for.

It’s impossible to capture or calculate Charlie’s contributions to our company, industry, and community in just a few sentences. What we can offer is the key to Charlie’s success: genuine, avid listening. People like to tell stories, and Charlie enjoyed them all, patiently waiting to hear the nut of a challenge and offer a potential solution. When he didn’t have the answer, he found people who did—quickly.

As one industry peer put it, Charlie’s success hinged on “doing what was right for the other person, not for what he himself could get out of a relationship.”
