180-Unit Apartment Building Sets New Standard for Luxury Living; Celebrates Renowned Local Woodcarver Dudley Carter
Local Builder Offers Popular and Unique On-Site Amenities While Focusing on Sustainable Design & Walkable Proximity to Parks, Retail

Redmond, WA, January 13, 2017 – MainStreet Property Group LLC (www.MainStreet-Residential.com), a full-service Kirkland-based developer, today announced the opening of The Carter on The Park (www.liveatthecarter.com), a new six-story apartment community in the heart of downtown Redmond.

Named after renowned local Redmond artist and wood carver Dudley Carter, MainStreet Property Group’s new building is located at 7508 159th Place NE across from Dudley Carter Park, adjacent to the Sammamish River Trail and a 4.6-acre preserved urban forest, and within walking distance to downtown Redmond retail shops and restaurants. The Carter features 180-apartment homes including ground floor live/work units.

“As The Carter on the Park opens, we couldn’t be happier with how the details of this amazing community are coming together,” said MainStreet Property Group President Kelly Price. “Every aspect of The Carter was designed with our future residents in mind. To accomplish that, we focused on unique design features that cannot be found anywhere else on the Eastside. From our high-end custom quality kitchens to the unique lobby, courtyard and 2-story fully connected community spaces, no element of The Carter was overlooked.”

Price continued, “Upon entering The Carter, residents are greeted by a large-format carving by Dudley’s granddaughter Anna Hanson, which was commissioned by our team especially for The Carter. We are truly thrilled to open the building to our first residents and showcase this new work of art.”

“Creating a sculpture to honor my grandfather was an exciting and meaningful project for me,” said Hanson. “As I carved using the tools he passed on to me I felt his spirit at my side —both with me and guiding me as though he never left. The owl in the carving is especially symbolic given its connection to my grandfather as a signature element in all his work.”

The building and interiors at The Carter on the Park were designed by Seattle-based architect GGLO in conjunction with MainStreet Property Group. The general contractor is W.G. Clark Construction Co. and Insite Property Solutions is providing professional property management services. Project ownership is MainStreet Property Group LLC and Washington Holdings is MainStreet’s capital partner on the project.

“We congratulate MainStreet, and the entire development team on a very well-executed and well-designed project,” said Ben Margoles, Executive Vice President with Washington Holdings. In addition to investing in The Carter, Washington Holdings is also an investor in the adjacent Heron Flats & Lofts project and the nearby Anderson Park Hotel development project.

“We believe in downtown Redmond,” continued Margoles. “It’s a great place to live, work and play, particularly with the City’s strong commitment to parks and open spaces.”

As a homesteader, renowned artist and wood carver, Dudley Carter built and lived in the “Haida House” which remains today in Dudley Carter Park across the street from The Carter—and he became the first King County artist-in-residence at the age of 96. In his honor, his granddaughter Anna Hanson created the building’s 30-foot tall wood wall carving in the lobby, as well as a custom panel installation around the elevators in a style based on Dudley’s carving techniques. The lobby will also showcase ‘The Collection’—a gallery featuring an additional carved piece from Dudley Carter.
