April Syria Promoted to Vice President of Property Management at Thrive Communities

Real Estate Industry Veteran to Oversee Company’s Growing Apartment Portfolio as Thrive Continues to Expand Seattle Presence

Seattle, Wash. (October 30, 2018) – Award-winning property management firm Thrive Communities (www.thrivecommunities.com) (Thrive) today announced that April Syria has been promoted to Vice President of Property Management.

In her new role, Syria will oversee Thrive’s robust apartment portfolio of 10,000 units and lead Thrive’s regional management team and 300 on-site associates. Syria’s innovative and inclusive leadership style will be key to executing the firm’s growth strategy, forging strong relationships with clients while creating a culture of internal opportunity for staff committed to success.

“April is a critical and valued member of our executive team,” said Thrive President Rose O’Dell. “Her tireless pursuit of excellence has strengthened our portfolio performance metrics and her energetic approach to building and mentoring teams has proven to be an invaluable asset to our company culture.”

“As a longtime industry executive, I’ve always been passionate about people,” said Syria. “Throughout my many roles and projects, I’m most proud of the fact that many of the associates I’ve hired and mentored have gone on to have successful careers in the industry—from Supervisors, to Regional Managers and Executives.”

With more than more than 20-years’ experience in the commercial real estate industry, Syria’s passion for multifamily coupled with her leadership abilities propelled her up through ranks, from Leasing Consultant to Community Manager at Archstone before joining Thrive in 2013. April established herself quickly as a leader at Thrive, receiving three promotions in her five years with the firm.

Syria’s career of high performance is reflected in the many industry awards she’s received, including the 2011 Emerald Award for Community Manager of the Year, the 2013 Emerald Award for Community of the Year, and Thrive’s 2015 ‘Be the Best’ Award celebrating her embodiment of Thrive’s values. Several of Syria’s projects have also been award-winning, including the Chelsea ‘Renovation of the Year’ (2018), The Row ‘Renovation of the Year’ (2018) and The Eden ‘Community of the Year’ (2018) from the WMFHA Emerald Awards.

As a member of the Downtown Seattle Association (DSA) and Washington Multi-Family Housing Association (WMFHA), Syria gives back to the industry by teaching for WMFHA and recently spoke at the 2018 Executive Leadership Panel at EdCon. Additionally, she is a Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor (CAPS) through the National Apartment Association (NAA), and has extensive leadership, customer service and change management training, most recently honed by her completion of the Dale Carnegie Executive Leadership Program.

As a native of North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada, Syria is a sponsor for Children of Nations, a non-profit dedicated to helping raise children out of poverty, and is an advocate and supporter of A21, a non-profit with a vision to end human trafficking. She also supports numerous local food banks and shelters with her family, including her husband of 13 years and two sons, Dillon and Brayden.

As an award-winning apartment management firm that also specializes in value-add repositioning and development services, Thrive manages over 65 communities across the Puget Sound area.
