Amazon today announced the opening of its new 510,000 square foot distribution facility at 3300 Hogum Bay Road NE in Lacey, Washington. The facility supports customer fulfillment by receiving large orders of inventory, largely from small and medium sized businesses, and redistributing products to fulfillment centers across the company’s operations network. It brings more than 1,000 new full-time jobs to the Lacey area, with an average starting wage of $18 an hour and comprehensive benefits that begin on day one.

The news comes on the heels of Amazon’s announcement that it will pay full college tuition for its front-line employees as part of its $1.2 billion investment to expand education and skills training benefits for its U.S. workforce.

“We are excited to welcome so many new Amazonians to our team here in Lacey,” said Sean Gimenez, General Manager at the facility. “We continue to hire for a wide range of roles, everything from receiving to shipping to fulfillment centers within the Amazon network. Amazon offers opportunities for professional development and encourages employees as well as interested candidates to consider building a longer-term career with us.”

“We are proud of the partnership that we have built with Amazon to bring this new facility to our community,” said Lacey Mayor, Andy Ryder. “In Lacey, we are committed to creating a multifaceted and diverse economy and this facility certainly helps with this endeavor by providing opportunities in new career paths in cutting-edge industries like logistics, retail, and technology with a company that is known for innovating.”

“The City of Lacey welcomes this new Amazon facility to our diverse and growing business community,” said Lacey City Manager, Scott Spence. “Amazon’s investment and support of workforce and professional development will be a phenomenal asset for the community now and in the future.”

A job at Amazon can be a springboard to an Amazon career or other opportunities. In 2020, Amazon promoted over 35,000 employees in its operations network and continues to invest in the long-term career success of employees inside and outside of the company.
