MIG, Inc. and The Portico Group Merge

SEATTLE, WA, January 9, 2017—MIG, Inc., a Berkeley-based, multidisciplinary planning and design firm, and Seattle-based The Portico Group (Portico) have joined forces.

MIG brings an extensive and progressive practice in landscape architecture, urban planning and design, environmental planning, civil engineering, communications, technology and community engagement. Portico expands MIG’s capacity in architecture, landscape architecture, and exhibit and interpretive design for museums, zoos, botanical gardens and aquariums.

In welcoming Portico to the MIG family, Daniel Iacofano Ph.D., FAICP, FASLA, MIG’s Founding Principal and CEO said, “Portico fits right in with our community and culture. During our partnerships on many successful projects over the years, we realized that our firms have great people who share the same passion for collaboration, an inclusive approach to planning and design, and hands-on personal service—with a focus on providing the best solutions for clients.”

Alissa Rupp, AIA, Portico’s president and CEO continued: “Portico shares MIG’s passion for collaboration and innovation. We believe our clients change the world for the better every day, and we are honored to assist each of them as they fulfill their mission and implement their vision. Our complementary portfolios reinforce our place-based approach to design –we both seek to strengthen communities and help our clients thrive and excel.”

MIG brings a strong West Coast presence with offices from Seattle to San Diego, as well as Denver, San Antonio and New York. From the MIG | Portico office in downtown Seattle, the staff of architects, landscape architects and exhibit designers will continue serving clients in the public realm, working closely with MIG colleagues in Seattle and across the country.

Iacofano concluded: “Our world and society are changing rapidly and profoundly. To tackle the challenges, MIG has assembled a team of nimble thinkers and insightful leaders whose defining philosophy is optimism. We’re exploring and expanding the boundaries of environmental design, bringing the science of ecosystems and human behavior together to solve pressing problems. We are excited and fortunate to have Portico’s very talented group of design professionals as part of MIG, and we will continue our joint legacy of award-winning work.”
